The James Martin Institute for Public Policy (JMI) has today launched a new Policy Challenge Grant program to tackle major challenges facing NSW within this decade.
The Grant program is seeking to attract outstanding academics from across JMI’s member universities, who have an interest in public policy reform. The grant is targeted at new and existing research that can be applied to a specific policy challenge in NSW, with successful grant recipients receiving support to engage directly with government.
JMI CEO, Libby Hackett, said the program would become an annual grant round and that JMI had been deeply encouraged by the level of interest in the new scheme.
“At its core, the grant is about promoting innovative ideas, fostering relationships, and creating high-impact public policy that will be relevant for decision-makers for many years to come”, she said.
Through this grant, we are tapping into an existing community of academics who share a passion for smart public policy reform that will have a positive impact on the lives of people in NSW and beyond.

What makes these Policy Challenge Grants unique is the level of dedicated support that JMI will provide Grant recipients. From translating their research for a policy audience, to connecting with government and policy makers, and maximising their research outcomes through targeted communications, JMI will provide expert advice and assistance along the way.
