The James Martin Institute for Public Policy (JMI) welcomes the announcement that the NSW Government will work with job platforms to introduce an ‘employer of choice’ credential on job platforms, as part of the NSW Budget Women’s Opportunity Statement.
Commenting on the announcements in the 2022 NSW budget, as part of the NSW Budget Women’s Opportunity Statement, Chief Executive of the James Martin Institute for Public Policy, Libby Hackett, said that “this week we saw big policy strides being taken to address the gender pay gap and improve workplace equity in NSW”.
“NSW will be a trailblazer by introducing a women’s ‘employer of choice’ credential on job search platforms. NSW Government, in partnership with Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA), will leverage the existing world-class data that WGEA captures on workplace gender equity and use this to drive meaningful change on the gender pay gap within NSW.
“By highlighting and celebrating behavioural change and encouraging a race ‘to the top’, organisations will inevitably shift to being an employer of choice for women,” Hackett said.
Today JMI is publishing its latest Policy Brief ‘Unlocking data & behavioural insights to close the gender pay gap in NSW’, based on a rapid response project for NSW Treasury in the context of the NSW Women’s Economic Opportunities Review.
Working with academics, industry and government, JMI proposed some practical ways to unlock, leverage, and mobilise existing government data to enhance private sector employers’ performance towards closing the gender pay gap in NSW.
We commend the NSW Government and SEEK for their commitment and active engagement to addressing the gender pay gap.
“The ‘employer of choice’ credentials, alongside other practical, smart behavioural nudges, could position NSW as the leading state for women in the workforce. We look forward to continuing the discussion on how best we can support NSW in achieving this,” Hackett said.
